Finiture is at the forefront in the promotion of the sustainable "finestra+"

Finiture renews its sponsorship to LegnoLegno, the national consortium of windows and doors’ manufacturers. For many years, LegnoLegno has provided support to the main players in the wood supply chain, by sharing technical-scientific know-how for the development of the sector.

Finiture will play an active role in the promotion of "Finestra+", the first National Project aiming to drive windows and doors’ manufacturers towards sustainability. The project has multiple objectives: to create new market opportunities for wooden windows with environmental sustainability performance; to strengthen the role of wooden windows in buildings subject to sustainability certification; to optimize and improve analysis methods and environmental labeling systems for wooden windows.

What does "Sustainable" window mean and how can it be certified? A window is sustainable if the entire production process generates a zero ecological footprint or even a negative balance. The Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is an objective, measurable and certified tool for certifying windows’ environmental impact, because it takes into account the entire production cycle, through the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology.

Because of the growing attention to the sustainability of buildings, coming both from the market and from national legislation (eg. Criteri Ambientali Minimi per l’edilizia), and in line with the EU objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030, the window plays an increasingly important role in the environmental impact assessments of buildings. The EPD of the window is therefore an increasingly urgent and fundamental element, part of a broader issue on sustainable construction and well-being of buildings. All the players in the industry, including Finiture, are thus called to action, not only to spread the idea of the "Finestra+", but also to provide their customers - windows and doors’ manufacturers - with the necessary data for their internal sustainability analyses.
